Screenprints
Welcome to my screenprint gallery. My art work is constantly evolving and is influenced by emotion, memory, and the desire to integrate the mediums of screenprinting and painting. All the handmade prints you see were created in my art studio in Kensington. Maryland or at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, Maryland.
My approach to screenprinting is unconventional–I see it as a form of painting. I often print on salvaged or challenging nonabsorbent material such as polypropylene or wood, and deliberately circumvent the process by smudging, wiping away, brushing, misprinting, or running the printed mark off the edge. I do not try to produce a flawlessly printed piece, nor do I count the number of layers, as is usual. I like to think that the these prints reveal a bit about what it feels like to live in this moment in history.
The term “print” here refers to printmaking; that is, using a press or darkroom or hand methods to create original prints. It does not refer to reproductions or “giclees” which is a commonly used but confusing term. If you have questions about techniques, feel free to send them my way!
